ARLINGTON CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

RELEVENT. CONNECTED. SPITIRUALLY ALIVE.

Arlington Congregational Church, a United Church of Christ, is a community of faith devoted to spiritual growth through worship of God and committed to ministries of love and compassion inspired by Jesus Christ. No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

It’s our commitment to help everyone grow in their faith to better serve their families, their community, and their world. We offer many ways to get involved, and to be included and connected.

Vibrant.

We are a church that is active. In our community, in our city and in the lives of our members and visitors. We reflect the vibrance of God's love in our words and acts.

Inclusive.

We believe in God’s unconditional love and in the inherent goodness of all creation. We embrace the diversity of our community and celebrate the lives of all people.

Progressive.

We believe that God is still speaking, not only through Scripture, but through the new words of people carrying the good news of God's grace and love.

Our Values

Open & Affirming

Arlington is an Open and Affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ. We believe that God is Still Speaking and look forward to sharing this Good News with YOU!

“We welcome all who seek to follow Jesus, including persons of every age, gender, race, national origin, faith background, marital status and family structure, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, mental and physical ability, economic and social status, and educational background, to share in the life, leadership, ministry, fellowship, worship, sacraments, responsibilities, blessings and joys of our church family.”

Life-Changing Worship

Yes, we’ve been bored too, but our goal is to make that experience extinct. We gather to worship the Living God, and that should bring tears, laughter, and “the thrill of hope.” For a few minutes we look to move beyond the mundane, stressful, and ordinary into the holy. With every church season our worship changes, thus you will find some seasons more formal, some more relaxed, and enthusiastic, and some down-right fun. We believe that “God is still speaking” so we gather to hear both ancient and modern witnesses to what God might be saying to our lives today.

Mission Minded

The word “mission” sounds altogether too pious for us, but what we mean is that this church is externally focused. Together as a community we seek to follow Jesus who “went about doing good and resisting oppression.” In answer to the mandate of the prophet Micah our faith compels us to “Do justice, love mercifully, and walk humbly with God.” When we use the word “mission” we mean that we not only feed the hungry and house the homeless but we also challenge systems that result in to many homeless and hungry people in such a rich nation.

Following the Way of Jesus

In the earliest days Christians were called “People of the Way.” As inheritors of that tradition, we seek to follow the Way of Jesus by faith. We try and remember that this journey is made by faith, not by certainty, or absolutes, or rules. Our hope is that this awareness will help us to avoid, presumption, arrogance, or judgmentalism. Together we are learning and growing and being changed by the Spirit, so it is incumbent upon us all to be patient with ourselves and others because God is “making all things new.”

God is Still Speaking

We believe in God’s continuing testament. This is why we are committed to hearing God’s ancient story anew and afresh in our lives and in the world today. We try to remain attentive to God’s creative movement in the world. Religion and science are not mutually exclusive, and your head and heart are both welcomed into our places of worship. We prepare our members and leaders to be engaged in ministry in the present and future church, and we embrace all kinds of communities and new modes of thinking. Why? Because God is still speaking,

ACUCC HISTORY

We were founded by a small group of people who gathered and began planning in 1875.

The first church was dedicated on January 9, 1876.
